AnnTaylor Stores Corp. (New York) reported an 11 percent increase in total net sales for the five-week period ended July 2, 2005. By division, net sales were down 0.6 percent for Ann Taylor stores but up 20.9 percent for Ann Taylor Loft.

Same- store sales decreased 1.2 percent companywide for the period. They were down 2.7 percent for Ann Taylor stores and down 0.8 percent for Ann Taylor Loft.

“Our June sales reflected the positive response we have seen to new product as well as the favorable impact of more seasonable weather,” said chairman, J. Patrick Spainhour. “Nonetheless, we will continue to take whatever actions are necessary in the second quarter to enable us to enter the third quarter in a clean inventory position.”

During the month, the company opened seven Ann Taylor Loft stores and four Ann Taylor Factory stores.

For the fiscal year-to-date period ended July 2, the company’s net sales are up 9 percent — down 3 percent for Ann Taylor and up 18.4 percent for Ann Taylor Loft. By division, same-store sales for the fiscal year-to-date period are down 4.7 percent for Ann Taylor and down 3 percent for Ann Taylor Loft.
