Fashion retailer opens flagship store on 57th Street

Club Monaco, the Toronto-based retail subsidiary of Polo Ralph Lauren Corp. (New York) has opened a New York flagship store.

The 5520-square-foot store on West 57th Street just off Fifth Avenue was designed by burdifilek (Toronto).

“The location of this store is prestigious, so without developing an entirely new concept, we played with certain elements of the design and added unique features staying within Club Monaco's distinctly modern aesthetic,” said creative partner Diego Burdi.

According to the design firm, an international, boutique design company that has recently done work for Telus Mobility, Danier Leather and Holt Renfrew, “a central vista dissects the store plan from the front doors straight to the dramatic 15-foot-high back image wall. Visible from the street, this wall is a dramatic variation on Club Monaco's signature focal wall and will act as a changing art installation.

“The design presents distinctive planar and linear elements throughout. Textures, finishes and furnishings are both urban and edgy yet still classically Club Monaco-modern. A 15-foot-high mirrored wall with concealed tri-mirror panels creates an exciting mood in the fitting area; high polished chrome display cubes and dark stained walnut veneered cubes highlight and display merchandise, as well as demarcate areas throughout the store; custom brown Lucite and bronze pendant shades wash light over the cashwrap desk; and custom metal display tables and towers in a special black wax finish with smoked glass shelving, lends to the store's edgy mood.

“Ebony stained jatoba flooring provides a dramatic contrast to the store's overall, white, ethereal palette. Merchandise is displayed in an unintimidating manner with plenty of visual negative space that allows for clarity of merchandising and ease of shopability. Finishing touches such as simple furniture groupings, light-stained ash folding tables, and area rugs perpetuate Club Monaco's signature lifestyle.”

Club Monaco operates 67 stores worldwide, including 42 locations in Canada and 25 in the United States, as well as six Canadian locations for Caban, Club Monaco's retail concept for the home.
