Students at FIT (New York) got the chance to channel their inner child while participating in Mattel’s Barbie Play fashion contest. The challenge was to create fashions, interior design, jewelry, photos, films and visual displays for Mattel’s iconic Barbie and Ken characters. Mattel chose three winners from each of the five categories.

The finalists work is on display through September 3 in the lobby gallery at FIT, at Seventh Avenue at 27th Street.

Among the pieces on display are models of new rooms for Barbie’s dream house, jewelry, full-size replicas of furniture and a storefront window.

First-place winners (who received $5000 each) are:
Maor Tapiro (Brooklyn, N.Y.); Jessica Mazur (Oswego, N.Y.); Veronica Zhou (New York); Loreal Prystaj (Rochester, N.Y.); Elyse Falato (Basking Ridge, N.J.)

Second-place winners (who received $3000 each) are:
Jessy Ayala, (New York); Sarah Hatch, (Jacksonville, Fla.); Kittinuch Amatayakul (Bangkok, Thailand);Chris Arena, (Plainview, N.Y.); Sarah Karp, (Lattingtown, N.Y.)

Third-place prizes (each received $2000):
Justin Gushue, (Cinnaminson, N.J.); Katie McTammany, (Rochester, N.Y.);Min Kyung Kim, (Chang Won Si, South Korea); Binh Nguyen,(Saigon, Vietnam); Dahea You, (Seoul, Korea)
