Management Changes:


Wind Mill Woodworking Inc. (Sheboygan Falls, Wis., slatwall and custom panel manufacturer) has hired Steven Neumeyer as vp, operations.

Martin Professional (Aarhus, Denmark, manufacturer of computer-controlled entertainment lighting equipment, speaker systems and Gem smoke machines) has appointed Lars Danielsen customer service manager and Henrik Holm to the area sales management team, responsible for Eastern Europe, The Netherlands, Belgium and Iceland.

The Lighting Practice Inc. (Philadelphia lighting design firm) has added lighting designer Tara DiLenge. She most recently worked for Fisher Marantz Stone (New York).

Buxbaum Group (Calabasas, Calif., retail and wholesale inventory liquidator) has promoted David Ellis to president. Ellis will retain his title and responsibilities as coo. Buxbaum ceo Paul Buxbaum has assumed the added title of chairman.

Business Briefs:


Rothenberg Sawasy Architects (RSA, Los Angeles design firm) has been appointed as an architect for Guitar Center (Agoura Hills, Calif., music instrument store chain). RSA is responsible for designing stores in Fredricksburg, Md., Baton Rouge, La., and San Francisco.

Creative Woodwork Intl. (CWI, Minneapolis wood furniture importer) and nParallel (Minneapolis strategic retail industry consultants) have partnered to deliver customized furniture and merchandising systems to retailers. Through the arrangement, nParallel is undertaking a benchmarking study, retailer-needs assessment research, interior environment concept design and development of 3-D computer modeling and rendering.

Orgatech (Azusa, Calif., lighting designer and manufacturer) and BPS Leuchten-Systeme GmbH (Blomberg, Germany, lighting engineering company) have entered into a partnership. Through the agreement, BPS will help Orgatech deliver lighting projects on time, while 80 percent of Oregatech's design and development will be performed in Germany and manufactured in the U.S.

Merchandise Mart Properties Inc. (MMPI, Chicago producer and manager of NeoCon World's Trade Fair) has announced that NeoCon East, a trade show for interior designers, architects and facility planners, will debut in Baltimore, Nov. 6-7, 2003, at the Baltimore Convention Center. Additionally, NeoCon West, the West Coast conference and exposition for the built environment, will relocate to the L.A. Mart in Los Angeles, a 300-showroom center for gift and home furnishings products. NeoCon West is scheduled for March 25-26, 2004. Awards & Competitions:


The Institute of Store Planners (ISP) has announced winners of its 2002/2003 Student Retail Interior Design Competition. Students were challenged to create a prototype design concept for a young women's cosmetics boutique targeting 13 to 20-year-olds. Winners were: first place, Gloss Lab by Robert Walshaw, Ryerson University (Toronto); second place (tie), Epi Center by Akihiro Wakasa, California State University Long Beach (Long Beach, Calif.), and Luminoso by Kate Hauge, Washington State University (Pullman, Wash.); and third place, Aspire by Marla Leongomez, California State University Long Beach.

Horton Lees Brogden Lighting Design (New York lighting design firm) received the Illuminating Engineering Society-IIDA Award of Merit 2003 and the Lumen West Award of Merit 2003 for its Sherman Oakes Galleria Renovation, in Sherman Oaks, Calif.

GranitiFiandre (Castellarano, Italy, porcelain products manufacturer) has named Barbara Balongue, of Balongue Design (Villanova, Pa.) winner of its yearlong Geologica Insignia Design Contest. The award was for Balongue's renovation of a 17th century farmhouse into an upscale Italian bistro using Geologica brand of products.

The Lighting Practice (Philadelphia lighting design firm) has awarded a $1000 scholarship to Abbey Beresik, a third-year student at Pennsylvania State University. Beresik is majoring in architectural engineering with a concentration in lighting design. This is the third year for the firm's scholarship program.

The International Interior Design Association (IIDA) is taking entries for its 2003 Acclaim Awards, which recognize interior projects introduced between Jan. 1, 2002, and Dec. 31, 2002. The deadline for entries is July 23, and awards will be presented on Nov. 4 in Los Angeles. For more information, call 213-747-2391.
