ShopKo names director of systems development; Osram Sylvania contributes to 4th of July celebration for troops; Martin Professional wins EDDY award

Management Changes:


ShopKo Stores Inc. (Green Bay, Wis., retail operator) has named Don Intile director of systems development, responsible for developing and supporting key merchandising and logistic systems used in ShopKo and Pamida stores. Intile most recently was senior information services manager for Fred Meyer Inc.

Daniel's (Grand Rapids, Mich., specialty retail store) has appointed two members to its management team: Kathe Curtis, store manager and women's buyer, and Annie Konieczny, manager and buyer of the men's collection.


Store Opening:


Pamida Inc. (Omaha, Neb., regional retail chain, subsidiary of ShopKo Stores Inc.) has announced it will open stores in Albion, Mich., and Mount Vernon, Ind., in mid-September. The Mount Vernon store is the company's 10th in Indiana, and the Albion store is its 19th in Michigan.

Business Briefs:


Designworks (Atlanta retail consulting group) has been commissioned by Foxwood Casino and Resorts (Mashantucket, Conn.) to provide store planning and design for eight specialty retail stores at the casino. Principal Mike Ulicny is in charge of the project.

kor group (Boston visual design and communications firm) has been accepted and certified as a Women's Business Enterprise National Council Company. The non-profit organization serves to educate the public and businesses about products and services available from women-owned companies.

Osram Sylvania (Danvers, Mass., lighting manufacturer) donated more than 60 of its 7000-watt XBO Xenon lamps to light up the Sunrise Mountain range during a “Tribute to the Troops” display on July 4 at Nellis Air Force Base in Clark County, Nev. The display was created by Light America, the same company that produced the New York “Tribute to Light” for the World Trade Center.

Awards & Competitions:


Pasanella+Klein Stolzman+Berg Architects (NewYork architecture firm) received a Best of Competition Award at the International Interior Design Association 30th annual Interior Design awards ceremony. The award was for its Williamsburg Community Center project in Brooklyn, N.Y.

Martin Professional (Aarhus, Denmark, manufacturer of computer-controlled entertainment lighting equipment, speaker systems and Gem smoke machines) received an EDDY Award for Lighting Product of the Year — Moving Light, from Entertainment Design magazine, for its MAC 2000 Performance lighting product.

Also at the awards ceremony, Rose Brand (New York drapery and textiles provider) received a Soft Goods Award for its SmokeOut flame-retardant soft-ceiling stretch fabric.

Potter Lawson Inc. (Madison, Wis., design firm) was awarded Best of Show at Patcraft Commercial Carpet's annual Chandler Awards, which recognize commercial designs using Patcraft Commercial Carpet. The firm won for its project at JH Findorff & Son Inc.'s corporate headquarters in Madison, Wis.
