Management Changes:

Osram Sylvania (Danvers, Mass., lighting and materials company) has named Francis Santiago executive vp and general manager of precision materials and components worldwide, and Jeffery Hoffman vp of operations for general lighting. Santiago, who joined the company in 1972, was also appointed to the executive committee. He most recently served as vp and general manager for the company's electronic components and materials division. Hoffman most recently worked as vp of the glass technologies division.

3M Commercial Graphics (St. Paul, Minn., large-format graphics manufacturer and supplier) has appointed Tom Avanzato as its sales manager for digital systems and materials. Avanzato is responsible for sales and business development for digital hardware and materials programs for the U.S.

Martin Professional Inc. (Frederikshavn, Denmark, lighting producer and distributor) has hired Michael Nevitt as control products segment manager at its Martin US unit. Nevitt is responsible for providing sales, technical and training support for the company's range of lighting control products.

Graham Downes Architecture Inc. (San Diego architecture firm) has added Marianne Berg as project designer and Martina Stiller as project design and administrative assistant.

Tom Cheves, president of Airstar Space Lighting (Orlando illuminated balloon designer and manufacturer) was honored by Event Solutions magazine with a 2002 Spotlight Award for Innovation. Airstar's balloons have been used at the opening ceremonies of the 2000 Summer Olympics, Cannes Film Festival and Disney France's Space Mountain.

The Illuminating Engineering Society of North America (IESNA) recently presented the following awards: The Louis B. Marks Award, which recognizes non-technical service to the society, to Joseph Murdoch, professor emeritus at the University of New Hampshire; The Fellow Award, which recognizes members for contributions to the technical activities of the society, to the art or science of illumination, or to related scientific or engineering fields, to Frank Florentine, National Air and Space Museum, Smithsonian Institution, David Keith, principal at Marshall Design Inc., and JoAnne Lindsley, Lindsley Consultants Inc; The Distinguished Service Award to Joseph Good III, Spectrum + Bennion; The Taylor Technical Award, which recognizes outstanding application papers, to Robert Levin, Osram Sylvania, William Brackett, Independent Testing Laboratories, James Burke, Burke and Associates, and Norma Frank, Colorado Lighting Inc.; and the Presidential Awards, which recognize service to the society during the president's term of office, to Veda Clark and the JIES Task Force. Also, the Howard Brandston Student Lighting Design Education Grant was given to Jay Wratten of the University of Kansas.
