Galyan's Trading Company Inc. (Plainfield, Ind.) announced the appointment of Edwin Holman as president and coo.

Holman, for three prior years president and coo of Bloomingdale's (New York-based division of Federated Department Stores, Cincinnati), will be responsible for the sporting goods retailer's finance, operations, systems, planning and allocation, stores and culture.

Real estate, legal, store planning and construction, merchandising and marketing will continue to report to Galyan's ceo and chairman Robert Mang.

Prior to his stint at Bloomingdale's, Holman was president and coo at Richs-Lazarus-Goldsmiths (Atlanta, another division of Federated) and held executive positions with Petrie Retail Inc., Woodward & Lothrop, Carter Hawley Hale, Neiman Marcus and Macy's Midwest.

“Galyan's has a unique position in the specialty retail sector with a concept that clearly differentiates it from the competition,” Holman said.

“We are extremely fortunate to attract an executive of Ed's caliber to Galyan's,” said Mang. “His background and portfolio of experience is an ideal fit with Galyan's and his appointment significantly strengthens our management team. I look forward to working with Ed as we refine our operations and continue to expand our concept.”
