Lidl Increases U.S. Expansion

Expands its store count by 50%

Published

Lidl (Neckarsulm, Germany) announced that it will be increasing the number of supermarkets it plans to open in the U.S. by 50 percent. Originally, when the retailer announced it would be entering the U.S. market, it planned to open 100 stores. Now, it plans to open 150 stores.

Many of the sites for these locations have already been secured, and the company has opened its U.S. headquarters in Arlington, Va. According to Forbes, the increase in stores may be due to the acceleration of another discount grocer’s expansion throughout the country: Aldi (Essen, Germany).

A list of locations for these additional stores is not yet available, however the company seems to be targeting its debut on the East Coast, reports the Deli Market News.
