Longs' New Operations Officer

Longs Drug Stores. Corp. (Walnut Creek, Calif.) has named Rick Dreiling executive vp, coo, with responsibility for all store operations, construction, asset protection and labor management. Dreiling will report to president and ceo Warren Bryant, effective immediately.

Dreiling was most recently executive vp, marketing, manufacturing and distribution for Safeway Inc. (Pleasanton, Calif.). He had previously been president of Safeway's Vons Cos. division.

Longs operates 463 stores in California, Hawaii, Washington, Nevada, Colorado and Oregon.
