Macy’s Selling Half of its Chicago Store

Macy’s (Cincinnati) is downsizing and selling off part of its building on Chicago’s State Street, which was formerly home to Marshall Field’s. The retailer has listed the top of half of the store — floors eight through 14 — for sale.

The retailer will keep its lower floors and operate as a smaller and, according to Macy’s spokesperson Andrea Schwartz, “more vibrant and more productive store.”

The sale will not affect the store’s iconic restaurant, the Walnut Room, which dates back to 1907, when it was in place at Marshall Field’s.  

The sale is part of the company’s efforts to monetize some of its real estate and could net the company $130 million, reports Chicagoist.
