McDonald's Corp. (Oak Brook, Ill.) reported global comparable sales rose 4.3 percent, while by region, U.S. sales were up 2.6 percent (even with June’s results); up 7.2 percent in Europe; and 2.1 percent in Asia/Pacific, Middle East and Africa.

“We remain aligned behind our customer-focused Plan to Win, which continues to drive positive global comparable sales as we satisfy customers' demands for menu variety, value and convenience,” ceo Jim Skinner said in a statement.

The company has used new product introductions to help fuel sales, including new McCafe espresso-based coffees this summer. It attributes a tiered-menu approach complemented by local summertime offerings as helping drive Europe's results.

McDonald's operates 32,000 restaurants in more than 100 countries.
