Gregory Sandfort has been with Kleinert's, Sears, Lazarus

Michaels Stores Inc. (Irving, Texas) has appointed industry veteran Gregory Sandfort as executive vp, general merchandise manager, responsible for all merchandising activities for the over 800 Michaels stores in the U.S. and Canada. He will report to Michaels Stores Group president Ron Staffieri.

Sandfort, most recently vice chairman and co-ceo of Kleinert's Inc., the bankrupt children's apparel retailer, has also been vp, general merchandise manager of children's apparel, furniture, toys, and electronic games at Sears, Roebuck & Co. (Hoffman Estates, Ill.); vp, divisional merchandise manager for the Lazarus Department Stores division of Federated Department Stores (Cincinnati); and senior vp, managing director of Arthur Anderson/Right Associates Inc. (Cincinnati) over a 27-year career. He began his career at F.W. Woolworth/Woolco in 1976.

Michaels Stores owns and operates 805 Michaels stores in 48 states and Canada, selling arts, crafts, framing, floral, wall decor and seasonal merchandise for the hobbyist and do-it-yourself home decorator, as well as 158 Aaron Brothers stores primarily on the West Coast, two ReCollections stores in Dallas and Frisco, Texas, and two wholesale operations in Atlanta and Dallas.
