Gerald Sampson was president and coo of Neiman stores for 10 years

The Neiman Marcus Group Inc. (Dallas) has announced the retirement of Gerald A. Sampson, president and coo of Neiman Marcus Stores, effective Dec. 31, 2002. No replacement has been named.

“Gerry has been an integral part of the growth and success that Neiman Marcus Stores has experienced during the nearly 10 years that he has served as its president and coo,” stated Burton Tansky, president and ceo of The Neiman Marcus Group. “In addition to Gerry's significant contribution to the Neiman Marcus organization, he has also been an effective leader in the Dallas community. We wish Gerry well in what I am sure will be a very active retirement.”

The company said it will announce the reassignment of Sampson's duties prior to his departure.

Neiman Marcus Stores operates 34 high-end specialty department stores in 20 states and D.C. The company's retail holdings also include two Bergdorf Goodman stores in New York and about 10 clearance centers that sell marked-down merchandise. Its mail-order business, Neiman Marcus Direct, distributes catalogs under the Neiman Marcus By Mail, Horchow and Chef's Catalog names, which offer apparel, home furnishings and gourmet foods. Neiman Marcus also owns stakes in firms that make cosmetics and handbags.
