Wireless gadgetry will send out promotions to 20 million shoppers

The Palisades Center (West Nyack, N.Y.) will be reaching out to its customers via a new “mobile commerce technology” by GeePS.com Inc.

To send information – on sales, promotions, new merchandise, etc. – to its more than 20 million-a-year shoppers, the mall is being hooked up with wireless delivery. Mall visitors can register for the service, either on Palisades Center's Web site or through mall kiosks, choosing the stores and/or categories about which they want to receive special promotional messages. Whenever the retailers send these personalized real-time messages, they will appear on the media the consumer chooses – WAP, SMS, voice, or e-mail. GeePS will also provide SMS text messaging and e-mail capabilities to help the retailers reach consumers anywhere and anytime.

The Palisades Center will be the first major mall in the United States to offer its tenants the technology with which to implement location-commerce technologies by sending wireless messages to consumers using regular mobile phones (voice) and WAP-enabled phones. It expects to bring in new customers and also enhance the traffic among existing customers. Consumers are assured that they will not receive undesirable messages and that their personal information will not be sold.

The 220-store center comprises more than two million square feet of retail, combining big box stores, category stores, department stores, shops, and a whole floor of restaurants and entertainment. Tenants include Filene's, Lord and Taylor, Sports Authority, Home Depot, Target, Ann Taylor, The Gap, and Victoria's Secret.
