Galyan's Trading Co. Inc., the Plainfield, Ind.-based active lifestyle retailer, has appointed Richard Leto president and chief merchandising officer.

Leto will be responsible for marketing, merchandising, planning and allocation. It is expected that Leto will join Galyans board of directors when he joins the company in mid-June.

Leto was most recently executive vp, merchandising of Kohl's. Prior to joining Kohl's in 1996, Leto was executive vp, merchandising for Macy's East.

Galyans operates 47 stores in 21 states and focuses on the latest in sports, fitness, outdoor recreation and apparel.
