Running the Store

Wal-Mart Stores Inc. (Bentonville, Ark.) has named Tom Coughlin executive vp and vice chairman. Coughlin, who will continue to be responsible for the U.S. retail operations of Wal-Mart stores and Sam's Club, will assume new responsibility for logistics, real estate development and global procurement.

He will continue to report to president and ceo Lee Scott.

Mike Duke, who had been executive vp of administration, has been promoted to the position of executive vp, and president and ceo of the Wal-Mart Stores division. Duke assumes responsibility for the operations and merchandising of the company's Wal-Mart stores, supercenters and Neighborhood Markets in the U.S. He will report to Coughlin.
