Bloomingdale's to partner with Sony on musical windows for Christmas season

Bloomingdale's, the New York-based division of Federated Department Stores Inc. (Cincinnati), says it will unveil holiday windows next week at its 59th Street flagship store inspired by the music of the season with a live concert by Harry Connick Jr.

The retailer said Third Avenue will be transformed into a stage for Connick's 16-piece band to entertain the crowd with songs included on his most recent album, “Harry for the Holidays,” which was released last month.

The album was produced by Sony Music (New York), which is partnering with Bloomingdale's in the presentation.

Bloomingdale's said its Lexington Avenue windows will feature seven different vignettes inspired by lyrics from classic holiday tunes included on Connick's album and songs from the singer's 1993 holiday album, “When My Heart Finds Christmas.” Each vignette will be framed like a vintage greeting card with Connick's music playing on exterior speakers.

Bloomingdale's 59th Street will also be a blaze of twinkling white mini-lights covering the flagship's entire facade.

In addition to helping Bloomingdale's flagship unveil the holiday windows, Connick's songs of the season, as well as those of other well-known Sony Music artists, will be heard throughout Bloomingdale's stores nationwide.

“Bloomingdale's partnership with Sony Music . . . adds an exciting new dimension to our holiday campaign this year” said Tony Spring, Bloomingdale's executive vp, advertising and marketing. “It allows us to entertain our customers and communicate Bloomingdale's holiday message using an entirely different medium.”
