Stage Stores Wins Bid for Gordmans

Company won a bid for more than half of Gordmans’ stores

Stage Stores (Houston) won a bid for 57 of the store locations that Gordmans Stores (Omaha, Neb.) had up for auction after the company declared bankruptcy. That is more than half of Gordmans’ brick-and-mortar stores; it will also be granted Gordmans’ intellectual property.

Stage Stores intends to reopen some of these locations, though it has not determined how many or which locations. It plans to retain the Gordmans' brand as well as some employees.

The winning bid amount has not yet been made public and still needs to win court approval. According to Women’s Wear Daily, the bid was made as part of a deal with Tiger Capital Group (New York) and Great American Group (Los Angeles), a joint venture that will take over the bankrupt retailer’s remaining 48 stores. The sale is expected to close during the first quarter.
