Ribbon-cutting ceremonies at six Dayton, Ohio-area Meijer superstores marked a new look in superstore shopping for the grocery and general merchandise retailer. Meijer began an extensive remodeling project in May 2002 and unveiled the new stores to shoppers on November 17.

“Our guests are seeing more than just a remodel,” said Mischelle Langdon, store director of the Miami Township Meijer location. “They are witnessing the Meijer concept of the reinvented superstore format. It's fun, impressive and exciting.”

The new look features a complete redesign of the store's interior with emphasis on the Fashion area. Meijer pioneered the one-stop shopping, superstore format in 1962, after having operated as a grocery store since 1934. Today, Meijer operates 156 stores throughout Illinois, Kentucky, Michigan and Ohio.
