Convenience chain expands its fresh food program

7-Eleven Inc. (Dallas) announced that it is expanding its fresh-made-daily and fresh-delivered-daily food program to its Southern California stores. Beginning today, 692 participating 7-Eleven stores throughout Los Angeles, Orange County, Riverside County and San Diego will offer Big Eats Deli sandwiches, fresh-baked Big Eats Bakery goods, dairy products, fresh salads, entrees, sushi, produce and fresh-squeezed juices.

With the introduction of fresh foods in Southern California, the convenience retailer now offers fresh-made-daily and fresh-delivered-daily foods at 4700 7-Eleven stores throughout the U.S. and Canada.

An essential component of the 7-Eleven fresh foods program is the company's proprietary retail information system (RIS). The computerized ordering system allows each store to customize its orders to provide the exact items the customers in their neighborhood want.

“This is an important strategic move for us in Southern California,” says Cynthia Davis, Southwest division vp, 7-Eleven. “Fresh food is one of the key ways 7-Eleven sets itself apart from the competition. Launching daily delivery provides a huge opportunity to change the way people think about convenience stores and what they offer. Our ultimate goal is to make 7-Eleven a fresh-food destination, not just an emergency stop.”

7-Eleven is the largest chain in the convenience retailing industry, operating or franchising around 5800 7-Eleven stores in the U.S. and Canada, and licenses more than 18,000 7-Eleven stores in 17 other countries and U.S. territories throughout the world.
