Unique Store Fixtures Takes the Gold — for Brilliant Bergdorf Goodman Makeover

SHOP! Association’s 2017 Design Awards “Gold Award for Department within a Store” – the top honor – went to the Bergdorf Goodman ground floor renovation designed by MNA and manufactured by Unique Store Fixtures. The 200 fixtures and displays crafted with luxurious materials create a “store within a store” to showcase jewelry and a separate handbag section. Included in the space are spectacular L-shaped and U-shaped cases with curved glass, stunning stone niches, creative cast metal cases, an unusual U-shaped wrap made of several radius cut pieces of glass with cast and patina metal, sculptured cast glass fixtures, T-stands made of cast bronze, LED lighting and much more.

After taking the Gold, Unique Store Fixtures accepted the SHOP! Association “Store Fixture Award – Fixture of the Year: Bergdorf Goodman: Folding Jewelry Screen.” This exquisitely crafted screen is made of hand-scored antique brass and high-clarity, low-iron glass. In a shift from the retailer’s former ivory palette, the screen is clad in pearl-gray pigskin and individual vignettes are lined with gray “cat-scratched” velvet. Custom hinges give the impression the fixture, which is in fact fixed, folds.

Also, two other awards: “Store Fixture Award — Bergdorf Goodman — Freestanding Jewelry Wall Case” and “Store Fixture Award – Bergdorf Goodman – Sculptural Cast Glass Fixture” were presented at the NYC ceremony. The sculpted fixture, consisting of two walls – each constructed with 400 pieces of cast glass and metal shelving with cast metal edges and LED lighting, is a focal display for handbags.

Additionally, the Retail Design Institute (RDI) Innovation Awards for Fixtures, Finishes and Visual Merchandising was presented to Unique Store Fixtures – out of 125 project entries for the creation of ground-breaking fixtures and displays for the ground floor of Bergdorf Goodman, NYC. Design team MNA also received acknowledgement.

The NYCxDesign Awards ceremony for outstanding projects presented by Interior Design magazine and ICFF at MOMA this past May included an Honoree award for “High Fashion Retail” to Bergdorf Goodman – New Main Floor designed by MNA and manufactured by Unique Store Fixtures. This high fashion retail project was chosen from over 700 entries from 109 design firms and 210 manufacturers as the second place winner in its category.
