Timberland, Smart Wool Tabletop Display

Timberland sought an interactive display for the seasonal launch of its Smart Wool footwear line made from eco-friendly materials.

Designers crafted a large thermostat with a rotating temperature dial to communicate the product’s “Control your Climate” tagline. A single shoe or pair of shoes sits on top of the dial, which rotates 360 degrees.

Promoting the brand’s commitment to green design, the display base is made of Sonotube and recycled paper substrates were used for the graphics.

Hugo Boss transformed its Fifth Avenue flagship for the holiday season using two 25-by-20-foot silver back-lit wings hanging from the flagship’s four-story black painted wall. The display could be seen from the sidewalk through the glass facade. Flashing strobe lights created movement while 18 custom uplights projected blue light onto the building columns.

Inside the store, mannequins were decked out in their own pair of wings outlined in light. “It’s simple and unexpected,” commented a judge.

Mitsukoshi, Parties in a Dream

At Mitsukoshi, the Tokyo-based department store retailer, designers created four window displays that told the story of four parties that appear in a dream to a girl. Scenes included “Kitchen Party,” “Crazy Party,” “Toy Party” and “Santa Claus going to a party.” One long white table stretched the length of the display with a contrasting black background and glittering accents.

The Bay, Santa Animated Windows

At Hudson’s Bay Co.’s Toronto flagship, five windows were created to capture outdoor and indoor scenes at the North Pole and in the city, leading up to Christmas Eve. Each small-scale setting includes dimensional replicas of actual rooms and places.

“The inspiration came to me as I waited in a two-hour line at the local mall with my 10-year-old daughter to see Santa,” says Ana Fernandes, creative design manager. “I was amazed at the long line of parents and children, all diverse in age and ethnicity, waiting to see Santa. As decades pass and world events change, Santa remains a constant representation of the idea of giving in our lives.”
