There's something for everyone at the World of Disney store on New York's Fifth Avenue, where “retail theater” is taken to new dimensions. For example, the whimsical marquee, curved and designed like a reel of film, and flanking display windows beckon visitors into the indoor theater. Once inside the three-story space, the store offers everything from stuffed animals and other Disney memorabilia to a theater, a place to meet Disney characters and a ticket counter for booking vacations or buying tickets to Disney theme parks.

In the retail area, customization is the order of the day. Little princesses can create their own tiara or jewelry in the courtyard room, where magic mirrors, a chandelier and custom carpet channel Cinderella. Playful visitors can get creative by making their own Mr. Potato Head with such New York icons as Mickey pretzels and pizza, or the Statue of Liberty's torch and crown. Those with a sweet tooth can customize their own candy – gravity-fed or racked – at Goofy's Candy Company, a first-ever Disney installation that features an 8-foot-high Goofy with candy-covered hat and vest. And for those who like to play dress-up, an area with cashmere clothing and the like features mannequins and black-and-white photos that appeal to a more sophisticated sensibility.
