Zara (Arteixo, Spain) is shifting the way it opens and operates brick-and-mortar stores by consolidating smaller stores and opening larger flagship stores.

According to MarketWatch, the retailer’s new strategy can be seen in its recent flagship store in La Coruña, Spain. That flagship replaced four smaller stores throughout the area with one 54,000-square-foot, five-story store. This store features the retailer’s full range of collections, in an effort to encourage customers to purchase more.

The company has not detailed how many of these large flagships it will open, however, it did announce plans to open between 450 and 500 new stores overall in 2017. It plans to absorb 150 to 200 smaller stores.
