Ermenegildo Zegna Holditalia SpA (Milan) is expanding its U.S. freestanding retail operation.

The luxury designer recently moved into new space on Rodeo Drive in Beverly Hills, Calif., and opened an enhanced location on Michigan Avenue in Chicago. In November, it will open a small store will open at Highland Park Village in Dallas.

“We’re doing what we said we would do in America, which is to open a few new stores,” ceo Gildo Zegna told Women’s Wear Daily, “and we’re following through on that.”

According to WWD, the Peter Marino-designed 5800-square-foot, three-level Beverly Hills store will be one of only three in the U.S. to offer the ultra-exclusive Stefano Pilati couture collection, which is being offered in no more than 50 stores globally.

“The store features modern furnishings such as a pair of lounge chairs designed by Milo Baughman, a set of Artona armchairs by Afra and Tobia Scarpa and a Gio Ponti sofa and two lounge chairs taken from the Hotel Parco dei Principi in Rome,” reports WWD. “This furniture is complemented by specially commissioned artwork.”

Zegna expanded its Chicago store to 4300 square feet by adding a second level. It is based on a Marino design and executed by Zegna’s in-house architects.

“We do a strong business on Michigan Avenue,” Zegna told WWD. “We really think there’s room for expanded growth there.”

In Dallas, Zegna is taking over part of a Pockets store, which is closing. Pockets carried Zegna merchandise. Using just 1776 square feet of space, “this store will be more focused than the others,” Zegna said.

Zegna told Women’s Wear that these three stores will wrap up his new store program for the year. “We think it’s a good balance with these stores between wholesale and retail. We want to maintain our business with Neiman Marcus, Saks, Nordstrom and Barneys, but we also want to build brand awareness by opening stores in key locations.”
