Bergdorf Goodman

2005 Holiday Window, New York

Bergdorf Goodman added its own twist to several Christmas songs and carols for a one-of-a-kind holiday songbook for its 22 holiday windows.

Using well-known as well as obscure lyrics, designers took a marked departure from the traditional and gave their own visual interpretation for each song. For instance, in “Oh what fun it is to ride…,” rather than depicting a snow scene, designers fashioned a black-and-white art deco setting, complete with a mannequin riding atop a real stuffed zebra.

Bergdorf's characteristic layers of detailing were present, as well. In “As I dream by the fire…,” passersby found antique European tiles, hundreds of pieces of Delft porcelain, painted and lacquered mannequins and a Roberto Cavalli gown.
