Anticipation Builds for Topshop’s New York Debut

British fashion retailer Topshop will open its first U.S. flagship this week, on the corner of Broadway and Broome Street in New York. The anticipated April 2 opening is seven months behind schedule, although the delay hardly seems to be dampening excitement.

“It's just Topshop mania over here,” TeenVogue's fashion news director, Jane Keltner told London’s The Guardian.

Sir Philip Green, chief executive of the Arcadia group that owns Topshop, is ramping up the celebrity content during a whole week of events, including 18 intimate dinners and drink receptions planned for friends of the brand. Supermodel Kate Moss is also scheduled to attend opening festivities and will introduce her fashion line for Topshop in conjunction with the new store opening.

The mid-priced fast-fashion chain store launched in 1964 in the basement of a department store in the North of England called Peter Robinson. The company has grown to become a major style authority with its up-to-the-minute affordable style and irreverent approach to fashion.

Topshop operates more than 300 stores in the U.K. and 100 in growing international territories. The company reports that its 90, 000-square-foot space flagship in London attracts more than 200,000 shoppers a week.
