Brown Shoe Makes Change

The footwear retailer grows and flows with the changing times

Brown Shoe Company Inc. has undergone considerable change recently.

After acquiring Mil-Mar Shoe Co. and adding it to its Famous Footwear chain, the St. Louis-based retailer made some management changes at its Madison, Wis.-based subsidiary. Jennifer Stack was named director of visual merchandising and store design; Mike Park, director of merchandising; and Barbara Murphy, director of target marketing and Internet development.

These aren't the only changes occurring for the $1.6 billion footwear retailer. Along with Wal-Mart Stores Inc., the company publicized new “clubhouse” display areas for its Buster Brown & Co. children's footwear. The permanent displays, designed to look like kids'clubhouses, are already in use in 1,485 Wal-Mart stores across the country. The displays introduce better-grade, leather footwear for children aged 2 to 8.
