Jurione Department Store

Ulsan, Korea

Published

on

In Korea, the look and feel of department stores is highly driven by vendors, not the stores themselves, so many retailers lack the “signature” style of their North American counterparts. The new Jurione Department Store in Ulsan is an exception.

Designed by WalkerGroup/CNI, New York City, the new Jurione Atrium Building is instantly recognizable from both the exterior and interior. The 370,000-sq.-ft. store, which features the first curved atrium in Korea, includes 13 floors developed around the theme of Korea's past and present — two sets of shadowboxes on the border of each floor hold artifacts and graphic images representing the country's timeline. On the selling floor, environmental graphics and visual merchandising give each department a separate identity, with shops including The Market, The Emporium, The Village and That's Entertainment.
